My experience learning English at the university

Hi! hope that you are fine, and perhaps you are enjoying your deserved winter holidays.
Many people point to the importance of knowing English, the second most spoken language in the world, the language of globalization, which opens millions of doors and gives us scope for study, work, and knowledge of the world and is the language new communications technologies, such as nowadays everything first comes in English, news, movies and favorite TV shows, the latest book by your favorite author That is why through this last session on my blog, you can find out how my experience was learning English at the university.

It all started when I had come to the university before classes begin and I had an exam in English. After, our teacher according to the results, she distributed us in different groups according to previous levels of English we had of our schools. To my luck, I had a very bad level of English in my school. Finally I stayed at the first level "starter". At first I found it all too easy but as time passed and the semester was starting ending, all the things increased their level of difficulty. Once completed the basic level and things were placing more and more interesting now I was on the second level "Beginner", this level had a increased difficulty , more and more tutorials, practical works, platform, listening tests and classes. But the challenge for my not yet finished, I still had a higher level of study, the pre-intermediate course and it was ... my last required level of English. When I started this level I was nervous but when began to spend the time I realized that like any other subjects of our career but deserve the same concern and constant practice. At this level, the Miss told us that we had that created our blog and at the end of the semester she evaluated us through an oral presentation about of a topic to choice that it was related to our career of veterinary medicine.

In conclusion, all the semesters that I spent studying and learning English, were very important to me. I can account for its myriad benefits and interested me so much that now I finished the study in "pilot" level, which is considered a general training course in our university. I think it's important that everyone is interested in developing this area of training; we have an excellent teacher on our faculty who constantly motivates us to participate actively and continue to take elective courses in English. His classes are fun, dynamic and playful; she always tries to keep a video or games that support us in what we are learning. I can say that I managed to successfully overcome and more what I ever imagined my challenges and goals in English.

CHALLENGES IN YOUR DISCIPLINE

The faculty of veterinary medicine at the University of Chile began operations on April 12, 1928 with two faculties, faculty of agriculture and veterinary faculty, until April 20, 1938 that the University Council of the University of Chile, organized independently of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Its initiatives have raised important challenges in many topics, that even today remains critical to our development as future professionals.
The challenge with respect to technology is very important to us because every day we see more progress in laboratory equipment, diagnostic tests, or simply basic working material of a veterinarian. We must be ever vigilant to new developments in technology as it is an element that allows us to work in a better way, more effective and efficient. The challenge lies in learning to properly use the tools that we will reach. Fortunately, our faculty is an important development in this area. Science and technology are very close, and both are aimed to emphasize the social dimension, harmonious and optimal development of society depends largely on what the man himself made on the basis of science and technology, never be developed for the destruction of man.
The development of the veterinarian in social issues is paramount. Veterinarians are concerned with preventing and curing diseases and injuries of animals, but also help protect humans from the more than 100 animal diseases that can affect. The main challenge is to safeguard the prestige of the profession on the basis of an exemplary public and private conduct in all aspects of social and professional activity, ensuring the highest esteem of the community.
But the challenge we face in education is undoubtedly the most important. The subject of education is one of the main problems in our country, both in levels of basic education and higher education. Increasingly, those who graduate from this race, there is no control by the government to regularize the quantities of veterinary schools in our country, In recent years private universities have increased this number, giving the country a poor quality professionals. Taking as one of the main challenges the best option to stay in the country and then graduating with the highest quality professionals to provide the best services.

UN's 'IPCC for nature' to fight back against destruction of natural world

More than 80 governments of the world voted in a week-long conference in Busan, South Korea, for to set up a major new international body to spearhead the battle against the destruction of the natural world.
The Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), also dubbed "the IPCC for nature", will be modelled on the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change, which has been credited with driving global warming and climate change from a fringe scientific.
IPBES represents a major breakthrough in terms of organising a global response to the loss of living organisms and forests, freshwaters, coral reefs and other; will provide governments and policy makers across the world with independent and trusted scientific advice so that we can take action to protect the world's natural environment.
The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, will produce regular assessments of the state of biodiversity at international, regional and "sub regional" levels, mirroring the IPCC's five-yearly global assessments of global warming and its impacts. It will also develop research and conservation in developing countries, stimulate research in areas not covered, and advise policy-makers, It will focus on "poverty alleviation, human well-being and sustainable development", said Professor Bob Watson, vice chair of IPBES.
"It will be up to all the parties, including science, international governance and the media, to make sure that such a development is open to scrutiny and effective in delivering the action needed of a problem which has disastrous consequences if not urgently addressed."

Improving Your Faculty Facilities

From my point of view, compared to the rest of the faculties of the University of Chile, our veterinary medical career, located on the south campus, is a sad reality, because the percentage of funds that comes to our faculty is the mínimum in comparison to the faculties of medicine and economy. Therefore we haven’t access to many benefits to improve our facilities. In my opinion, one of the main things that need improvement is the cafeteria. Regarding this issue the first thing I would do would be to consult my colleagues through surveys what are your suggestions and ideas to establish a new system and then present them to our new dean.
If our faculty could implement a new cafeteria would have many benefits to students, doctors, and all persons who wish to eat there. If infrastructure is improved we could have a good attention, more rapid and orderly. We could choose to better healthy and nutritious meals, a varied menu with various options for desserts and drinks. If we can improve our diet we can improve our quality of life, and that's the best benefit that people can get. For the faculty the economic benefit would be higher, have more income achieved.
I think the next steps, is not only urge the authorities in seeking ways to improve the major shortcomings and urgent needs of university students.
Another recommendation to improve our faculty of veterinary medicine is to have a gym with all the necessary equipment in which various sports to develop professionally.
I hope that before graduating, I can enjoy the changes and improvements in my faculty.

My favorite animal

The elephant is the animal that leads my list of favorite animals. Since I was little I liked “Dumbo” and programs about the herds of elephants that transmitted on the channel Animal Planet.
The elephants are the largest land mammals. They fed almost exclusively of herbs, barks of trees and shrubs, have large ears and its main function is thermoregulation of the animal, can live up to 60-70 years of age. It is the mammal with the longest gestation period, 22 months and weighing 115 kg at birth. All these things I knew from some cultural programs, but the most interesting and I learned from my mother, is that the herd is always led by a female the "matriarch".
There are some facts and myths about these animals, many people think that elephants are afraid of mice, but what happens is that elephants have poor vision: his eyes are on the sides of the head, which makes a clear distinction can not be anything small that moves before them. This makes it withstand the surprises or sudden movements when approaching a mouse a bit nervous and aggressive.
It is generally related to the elephant with a good memory, and studies by the University of Sussex in Kenya is confirmed. Studying elephant communication between researchers concluded that these animals were able to recognize the call of over a hundred different individuals.
Other studies confirmed the ability of elephants to recognize the remains of bodies of the same species, with particular attention to those for members of their herd, apparently distinguished by smell. When confronted with these remains appear to pay particular tribute posthumously, touching them with their horns and hooves. However, with bones of other species is total indifference. I love elephants and I would love to help in its conservation because of the constants threats that this species is found.

Where to go in Santiago???

Hello my dear friend, I hope you are fine…
In this occasion I will show you five places that you must not stop visiting in Santiago of Chile.
If you are interested in knowing more about of our culture, National Historical Museum and the Chilean Museum of Pre-Columbian art, are the best places to start a good tour, in these places you can take a trip in time and start living our culture, through knowledge and recreation of the country's history through the collection, preservation, research and dissemination of tangible and intangible heritage which forms the historical memory of Chile.
Second place you can visit the Metropolitan Cathedral. The Cathedral of Santiago lies a magic that few people know inside it is a beautiful museum pieces that bring us closer to the history of Chile. This Cathedral is located on the Plaza de Armas. It can also be observed inside three ships, two sides and a central higher, and a roof-shaped barrel vault. It is located to the west of the Plaza de Armas and can be reached by Public Transport: Metro Station Plaza de Armas.
Santa Lucia hill, is a national monument surely you can not miss. It is a great oasis in the midst of our great concrete jungle. Inside you can find Castillo Hidalgo, water fountains, beautiful gardens and many viewpoints.
The seat of President of the Republic of Chile, is another place you can visit. The palace of La Moneda It also houses the ministries of Interior, General Secretariat of the Presidency and General Secretariat of Government. To the north is the “Plaza de la Constitucion” and to the south is the “Plaza de la ciudadanía” which has in the underground “El Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda” where you can find various expositions, now you can enjoy the exhibition called "The ancient China and the Terracotta army” which will be in our country until the end of May.
Pablo Neruda is one of our Nobel laureates in literature known for his great poetry, so I recommended last place you visit in Santiago of Chile is "Casa la Chascona" The Chascona Pablo Neruda is located on a hillside of Cerro San Cristobal. This is the house where he spent his years Pablo Neruda. This house stands beside a waterfall, outlines the magic of the great poet. It is a unique house that has been designed only by an artist like Pablo Neruda and is manufactured using carefully selected materials. For poetry lovers this is a unique place worth visiting.
I hope you enjoy these magnificent places of our city.

Death Penalty

When I first saw the movie called "unexpected miracles" I began to question whether it was correct or not the death penalty. My parents tried to explain to me the reasons that some people had to support and believe in such punishment, but I never understood. The last movie I saw where it mentioned the topic was "the secret of his eyes". I believe that in the movie previously mentioned, I managed to understand better about the feelings of the people who support the death penalty.
But in my personal opinion, I think that is not the best punishment for a person who has committed a serious crime.
I think that not exist any person in the world that have the right to terminate the life of another person, I consider that the right to life is the most important right and nobody can break. To believe that executions bring justice to crime victims and their families, It is not a good argument for me.
While the execution of criminals and political dissidents has been used by almost all societies at one time or another in their history, current use of the death penalty has been abolished in most countries
In many countries where it still applies the death penalty is reserved as punishment for the crimes of murder, espionage, treason, or as part of military law. In some countries also applies to punish sex crimes, being considered such as adultery or sodomy. It is also punishable by death in other countries, apostasy, the formal renunciation of one's religión.

A Country I would like to visit

UK is the country I dream of someday being able to visit. Since childhood I've liked their landscapes and it has attracted much attention architecture. Reminds me of old things, ancient historical times. I come to my mind the great castle, its extensive gardens, I come to my mind the great castle, its extensive gardens, the knights of the Round Table, Merlin the Magician and King Arthur.
I know that the UK is a unitary state comprised of four countries: Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland; is a developed country and considered a world power, was the first industrialized country in the world and the leading world power during the nineteenth and early twentieth century; is a constitutional monarchy and Elizabeth II is head of state in the country.
If I could travel to Britain would be two reasons, the first reason would be to know the characteristic monuments like Clock Tower, the Palace of Westminster, and its castles. I love touring the South of England and visit the cities and towns such as Canterbury. In the north I visit the city of Liverpool is famous for the immortal Beatles and because the Titanic began its journey in this city. I travel all over the place that I could until my money ran out, but I would not leave the UK without having visited Scotland, specifically the highlands, where there is the Loch Ness. My second reason would find a nice place to live for a couple of years and then return to my country.
I hope my dream comes true…

My experiences during the second term of 2009

Hello friends! How are you? For me it's great to communicate with you again. These last weeks I have had many things to do in the university , but the last half of last year was crazy, But the last half of last year was crazy... This opportunity I will tell you some of my experiences.
Starting the second half of the year tells me that soon I will be birthday. August 12 was my 20th birthday, that day I went with my friends ice skating, had a great time, we had fun and we did not stop laughing for the countless falls. Then we went to eat together ... was one of my best birthdays! After two weeks I broke up with my boyfriend, and that left me very sad for a long time, but I decided to go ahead and focus my time on something more productive than dwell on the past. I chose the elective Capoeira, and I really enjoyed. I started training only on Mondays, but amused me so much I decided to train the on Tuesdays, finally I finished training on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays!. Capoeira is a dance of defense of Brazilian origin. it "plays" (fight) for two people within a wheel, a circle formed by all participants. Every now and then performed a baptism to give each student a rope, which according to color one can appraise the level of fighting.
After many tests I had finished my semester of university with my field practice in the city of Linares. was the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge but more reason to learn and practice for a week about pork production, dairy work and most difficult, learn to live with my classmates.
After my practice, my vacation started, finally came time to enjoy family and old friends. I enjoyed a nice Christmas and New Year . I ended 2009 with beautiful memories and great experiences!

TranSantiago!

I started living in Santiago when I went to University of Chile, therefore I did not manage to use the services of former public transport. When I started my career in veterinary medicine I've taken the transantiago so I can not do a good and objective comparison with the previous system.
At first everything was very new to me, new city, home, friends, but nothing hindered me as much as Transantiago. I chose the easier, “the subway”, but had and still has some disadvantages for me, for example, it takes me longer to get to college and I can not know the streets of the city. I know that time is something precious to be able to manage, so I had no choice but to learn to use transantiago, and my first big help was his website, is easy to use and you can see the different options of routes, and the least amount of possible combinations. One day my classmate told me why you do not take the bus216? is the best because it takes up a block from your house and leaves you outside of the university!. I stopped using the subway and I started to use the transantiago. I think a more secure system than the previous, has a more convenient payment system "the BIP" and has a better treatment towards people.
For the system improves, I think it is good that the frequency of buses should be higher and more orderly, because there are times when one waits and waits for a bus, and sometimes spend two or three buses together!
It is a system that still has room for improvement, but over time has been improving their public acceptance.
